Quick facts: Beneath the Roman stadium in Plovdiv, which is 240 meters long, an ancient water supply system still flows. Up to 30,000 spectators once sat on its stands, and today you can see the excavated parts of the stadium through glass floors on the main square while strolling through the city.
Highlights: Beneath the city center lies a nearly intact Roman stadium, discovered purely by chance in 1972 during the construction of a post office. Most surprisingly: on the racetrack, the original starting blocks with carved Roman numerals are still visible, which you can see through the glass floor on Dzhumaya Square.
