Quick facts: The River of Golden Dreams connects Alta Lake to Green Lake, winding through 4 kilometers of marshland and forest. Paddlers share these waters with beavers, otters, and the occasional black bear spotted along the banks.
Highlights: At its narrowest point the river squeezes to just 3 meters wide, forcing paddlers to weave through a tunnel of overhanging willow branches. The water turns a shimmering amber in late afternoon sun, colored by tannins leaching from cedar roots and giving the river its golden name.

- Bring a waterproof bag for your camera because the best photos are possible right from the water, and surprise showers are common even in summer.
