Quick facts: Under a roof of 11 tons of grassy vegetation lies one of the most modern museums in Northern Europe. Over 200,000 visitors come here each year to see unique prehistoric finds, including the 10,000-year-old Tollund Man.

Highlights: The main exhibit, the perfectly preserved body of the Tollund Man, looks as if he just fell asleep millennia ago. His face with fine wrinkles and short stubble is so lifelike that you feel as if you are at the bedside of a sleeping person, not at an archaeological find 2,400 years old.

Don't forget to bring your camera to the grassy rooftop: the view of the Aarhus Bay is absolutely stunning.
The Iron Age excavations are fascinating, but don't underestimate the temporary exhibitions in the underground space either.
If you like peace and quiet, head straight to the Tollund Man before the crowds start around lunchtime.
