Quick facts: Three levels of underground chambers stretch nearly 30 meters below the hill, carved directly into the soft limestone by hand. Over 1,500 people could shelter here during air raids, and the tunnels once connected to a hospital and a monastery above.
Highlights: A tiny spring-fed pool still sits in one of the deepest chambers, where the temperature hovers around 12°C year-round. Visitors can touch the actual hand-carved ladder rungs left behind by 18th-century cave dwellers who once called these tunnels home.

- Wear closed-toe shoes with grip, the limestone floors stay damp and slippery even in dry weather.
- Photography without flash works best in the main chambers, but the deepest tunnels are too dark for phone cameras.
- Skip the audio guide and read the printed panels instead, the narration moves too slowly through the narrow corridors.
- Arrive right at opening time to have the upper chambers nearly to yourself for the first 15 minutes.
