About

Quick facts: Spread across a sprawling complex of courtyards, gardens, and buildings, this 18th-century palace blends Rajput and Mughal architectural styles with surprising European influences. The palace still serves as the official residence of the Jaipur royal family, and the current maharaja lives in the private wing on the upper floors.

Highlights: Four oversize silver urns, each standing 1.6 meters tall and capable of holding 4,000 liters of water, were made at the palace for the maharaja's trip to England in 1902 , they carried sacred Ganges water for his daily baths. These are now the largest silver objects in the world, a Guinness World Record holder that sits quietly in a courtyard.

Insider tips

  • Visit the private gallery upstairs for exquisite miniature paintings, but skip the overpriced gift shop near the exit.
  • Wear closed-toe shoes as you'll be walking on uneven stone floors across multiple courtyards.
  • Arrive by 9:15 AM on weekends to get courtyard photos before the 10:30 AM rush of tour groups arrives.
  • The Peacock Gate faces east, so visit it between 8-10 AM when morning light makes the blue and green mosaics glow.
