- Fair taxi price (official, daytime): 300,000 Rp - 500,000 Rp (€15 - €25). Probolinggo has no commercial airport. Most visitors fly into Malang's Abdul Rachman Saleh Airport and take a car or minibus about 90 km east. Agree a fixed price before boarding or use a ride app for a predictable quote.
- Best alternative: Bus from Arjosari terminal (Malang) to the Brada/Probolinggo terminal (40,000 Rp (€1.98))
- Angkot and city buses are paid in cash to the driver or conductor; there is no ticket validation machine. Keep exact change small notes, as drivers often cannot break large bills.
- Not expected but appreciated. Round up fares or leave small change in restaurants; drivers and guides for Bromo tours may accept a small tip for good service.
- Most warungs and local restaurants add a small service charge (usually 5 percent) and government tax (10 percent) on top of the menu price. Always check the menu lists prices, and if none are shown, confirm prices before ordering.
- Choose to be charged in Indonesian rupiah and decline dynamic currency conversion. Prefer ATMs attached to major bank branches. Independent street ATMs may carry higher fees; check the machine's posted fee before withdrawing. Carry small cash as many warungs and angkot rides are cash only.
