Quick facts: A single collector assembled an extraordinary library of manuscripts, miniatures, and rare printed books from Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Youโll find items ranging from pocket-sized 17th-century Persian paintings to intricately illuminated Qur'ans and medieval Bibles.
Highlights: Collector Sir Alfred Chester Beatty amassed more than 20,000 objects, and the galleries use low amber lighting and velvet-lined cases to make gold leaf and pigments glow. A rotating display places a 13th-century Psalter beside a 17th-century Japanese scroll, creating surprising cross-cultural conversations up close.
