About

Quick facts: Wisteria cascades down a 200-meter pergola each spring, creating a purple-tunnel that frames the entire Florence skyline. Three separate garden styles coexist here: a romantic English woodland, an elegant Italian Renaissance terrace, and a fruit orchard with 19th-century iron structures.

Highlights: From the belvedere at the top, you'll count 15 different churches rising from the city below, their domes catching the afternoon light in sequence. The stone staircase between the gardens was designed by architect Gherardo Silvani in 1641, and its acoustics carry every footstep upward like a natural amphitheater.

Insider tips

  • Bring a small picnic to enjoy on the shaded benches near the orchard pavilion.
  • Spend 10 minutes inside the small Museo Pietro Annigoni, included with your ticket.
  • Skip the café at the entrance and walk up to the belvedere for better views and fewer people.
  • Wear sturdy shoes, the stone paths are uneven and there are several steep staircases.
