Quick facts: Rising from the turquoise Tyrrhenian Sea, this protected reserve guards one of Sicily's last stretches of untouched Mediterranean coastline. The limestone cliffs here contain fossilized marine creatures from 200 million years ago, visible right in the rock formations along the coastal trail.
Highlights: At the reserve's northern edge, a tiny pebble beach called Cala dell'Osta appears only at low tide, completely disappearing under the waves twice daily. Local swimmers race the incoming water to snatch a few hours of solitude on this fleeting strip of shore that feels like a secret stage set by the sea itself.

- Bring water shoes for the rocky coves: flip-flops won't cut it on the sharp limestone pebbles.
- Pack a flashlight if hiking the full trail in late afternoon: sections near the Punta Barcarello watchtower have no lighting.
