Quick facts: Fine white sand spreads beneath a tall cliff crowned by a centuries-old sanctuary that seems to hover above the bay. Around 200 steps carved directly into the rock lead down from above, and the water shifts to a bright aquamarine as the afternoon sun hits it.
Highlights: The sanctuary on the cliff above is three separate buildings joined by a narrow stone passage, and the monks who once lived there reportedly grew wine on this very slope. At the foot of the rock lies a small freshwater spring that bubbles up through the sand, and locals say the mix of cool spring water and warm sea makes the swim here feel bracingly unique.

- Wear sturdy water shoes, the first few meters into the sea are scattered with smooth pebbles and stones.
- Arrive before 10 a.m. on summer weekends to claim a patch of sand before the tour boats cruise in from the cove.
- Photograph the bay from the stone steps partway down the cliff for a sweeping view of the sanctuary perched overhead.
- Bring a snorkel mask, the water is clear enough to watch small fish weaving around the rock at the waterline.
