Quick facts: A compact shrine tucked behind torii gates holds winding paths and over 3,000 azalea bushes that burst into layered pinks, whites, and magentas each spring. Vermilion torii gates punctuate shaded pockets, while quiet ponds and lacquered wooden halls give the place a calm, almost cinematic feel.
Highlights: Slip under an archway of azaleas where roughly 3,000 blooms make a scented tunnel, the air sweet and heavy enough that you notice the color before you hear footsteps. Locals still tuck tiny wooden votive plaques into a low alcove, many covered in handwritten wishes in kanji and stacked a few dozen high, creating a tactile, living time capsule.
