Quick facts: Three different versions of Paraguay's Declaration of Independence are hidden inside, including one that was smuggled out of the country in a maid's skirt. The walls contain original 18th-century frescos that were only discovered in 2017 when renovation crews peeled back layers of plaster.
Highlights: A secret tunnel once connected this house to the cathedral a block away, letting independence conspirators escape during Spanish raids. The tunnel entrance is still visible through a glass panel in the floor, right beneath where visitors stand in the main courtyard.
