Getting around

In Lima, walking is best within the Historic Center, while the Metropolitan train plus Beat, Uber, or Cabify handle longer hops at roughly $0.60 per kilometer. For Sacred Valley and Sacsayhuaman, book a private taxi or tour van from Cusco, about 45 minutes each way. Machu Picchu requires the train from Cusco's Poroy or Ollantaytambo station to Aguas Calientes, roughly 1.5 to 2 hours, then a shuttle bus to the site. Return to Cusco by the same route. Fly from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado for the Amazon leg, followed by a lodge boat transfer. Within Cusco, walking or short taxi rides work best.
