About

Quick facts: Perched above almond groves and cork oaks, the lookout offers sweeping panoramas that stretch from patchwork fields to the distant horizon. Local birdwatchers record more than 50 species from the ridge during migration, and at sunset the sky floods with orange and purple hues that photographers chase.

Highlights: A procession of roughly 300 locals carries 40 lanterns up the ridge each September, leaving a glowing chain of light that hugs the contours of the landscape for hours. Beneath one weathered stone sits a tin box holding over 1,200 handwritten notes, paper corners softened by salt and eucalyptus, visitors often press their palms to the lid and whisper a wish.

Insider tips

  • Wear comfortable shoes for the short uphill walk, roads and paths can be uneven.
  • Stay for sunset and face west to include orange-tiled roofs in foreground shots for scale.
  • Visit early morning on weekdays to avoid local families and enjoy softer light.
  • Carry water and a light jacket, coastal breezes can be chilly outside peak summer.
