About

Quick facts: The tall fortress on the hill offers a panoramic view of the Mureș River and the surrounding landscape. It is said to have withstood almost a month without supplies during a 17th-century siege.

Highlights: The old bell towers served as watchpoints from which guards observed enemies tens of kilometers away. At night, the fortress echoed with a mysterious sound spreading through the valley, intended to scare off enemies.

Insider tips

  • Wear sturdy shoes because of the rocky path to the top.
  • It is worth photographing at sunset when the colors bring the whole valley to life.
  • Avoid visiting on weekends when there is higher attendance.
  • Don't miss the small underground museum in the fortress with exhibits about the siege.
