Quick facts: A pair of giant MiG aircraft erected as a monument commemorates the airstrikes from the civil war in 1988. Local residents bring flowers and photographs of their loved ones here, making the monument an informal place of remembrance for the entire community.
Highlights: Originally a six-meter monument stood here, replaced in 2001 by the current MiG-17 aircraft statue mounted on a stone pedestal in the colors of the Somali flag. After dark, the monument lights up with colorful LED lights, and local youths play football on the adjacent square.
