About

Quick facts: Fresh fish arrives daily from the nearby port of Campomanes, with catches still glistening and smelling of the sea. Over 20 family-run stalls have operated here for decades, with some vendors representing third-generation fishmongers and greengrocers.

Highlights: Step up to the tiny seafood bar tucked in the back corner, where the owner shucks oysters to order while pouring ice-cold local white wine. Only locals know to arrive before noon to snag one of the four stools and watch the daily parade of grandmothers bargaining for the best catch.

Insider tips

  • Head straight to the rear counter for the best seafood tapas: the grilled squid and pimientos de padrón are exceptional.
  • Bring a small cooler bag if you want to buy fresh fish to cook later, vendors will pack it with ice for free.
  • Tuesday and Thursday mornings are quietest if you want to browse without crowds.
  • Don't skip the upstairs olive section where an elderly woman sells 12 varieties she cures herself.
