Paseo Marítimo de Altea
Best time to visit
Late afternoon to sunset for the golden light on the blue domes and the cool sea breeze. Weekday mornings are quieter if you prefer space to yourself.
Budget tips
The promenade itself is completely free to walk and enjoy. Bring a reusable water bottle to refill at the public fountains along the walkway instead of buying from the tourist kiosks.

About
Quick facts: Whitewashed buildings with sapphire-blue domes give this promenade a Greek island feel, yet it sits on Spain's Costa Blanca. More than 200 steps connect the seaside walkway to the historic old town, each offering fresh glimpses of the Mediterranean beyond.
Highlights: At sunset, the 14 ceramic-tiled church domes catch the last light and glow like 14 blue lanterns above the shoreline. Locals gather on the benches carved into the promenade's curved edge to watch the sun dip behind the Sierra Bernia mountains, a daily ritual that has defined this coast for generations.
Insider tips
- Walk as far as the fishing port end where the crowds thin out and the views open up across the bay.
- Wear sturdy sandals or grippy shoes: the mosaic paving gets slippery after morning cleaning.
- The best photo spot is from the stone steps near the Cap Negret viewpoint, not from the main promenade level.
- Skip the restaurants right on the seafront and walk two streets inland for better value and equally good seafood.
