Quick facts: Two Catholic Monarchs, Isabella and Ferdinand, are buried here in a plain lead coffin that contrasts sharply with the ornate marble mausoleum above. Their daughter Joanna the Mad and her husband Philip the Handsome are also interred here, with their tombs bearing intricate alabaster carvings of reclining figures.
Highlights: Step inside and look up: the stunning Plateresque iron grille surrounding the royal tombs was forged from 3,000 kilograms of silver brought back from the Americas. The royal crypt below sits in near darkness, where you can spot Isabella's simple coffin through a glass panel, a humble final resting place for the queen who funded Columbus.

- Skip the audio guide and use the free QR code signage in English for the same information at half the time.
- Photography is allowed without flash, so capture the intricate grille work and Isabella's crown in the sacristy museum.
- The royal crypt is accessed via a narrow staircase behind the altar, go early before the queue forms.
- Combine this with the Cathedral next door using the joint ticket, both are within a 2-minute walk.
