Quick facts: Goya painted the towering dome fresco in 1798, peopling a fake balustrade with the street vendors and washerwomen he spied from café windows. His headless skeleton, returned from Bordeaux in 1901, rests directly beneath the spot where he painted the Virgin haloed in angels.
Highlights: Feed a coin into the wall machine and the dark dome lights up for a few minutes, sharpening every saffron robe and squinting face in the painted crowd. Those characters gaze down on a coffin whose body arrived from Bordeaux in 1901 without a skull, and nobody has ever found the missing head.
