Best time to visit
It is at its most beautiful in the late afternoon, an hour or two before sunset, when the lighthouse is bathed in warm golden light. Early morning is great for a peaceful visit before the groups arrive, and October and November bring dramatic skies over the bay.

Quick facts: When the sea gets rough, the light of the distant lighthouse can be seen from over 30 kilometres away. In 1991 the old harbour light was replaced by an automatic system, but the tower still keeps its historic role.
Highlights: When the fog sets in, the foghorn sends out deep sounds that can be heard for kilometres, while the light beam slowly turns above the cliff. At its foot there is also a small art installation that follows the story of the former keepers and their days spent in isolation.
Insider tips
- Bring a jacket because the sea wind can be sharp even in summer, especially at the very top of the cliff.
- The best photo is taken from the trail leading to the lighthouse, where the whole tower fits into the horizon.
- Arriving before 10 a.m. helps you avoid the morning groups and have the viewpoint almost to yourself.
- Do not skip the walk to the very end of the peninsula; the view of Santander from above is worth every step.
