How much does a trip to London, United Kingdom cost?

• Fair taxi price (official, daytime): £50 - £100 (€59 - €120). Use the official black cab rank outside each terminal or a licensed minicab via a reputable app. Refuse drivers who approach you inside arrivals; they are usually unlicensed and overcharge.
• Best alternative: Heathrow Express train to Paddington station (£25 (€29.41))
• Tap your contactless card or Oyster on the yellow reader at the start and end of every journey. Failing to tap out on rail charges the maximum fare. Bus users tap once on boarding only. Fine without a valid ticket: £80 (€94.10).
• Tipping is expected but not mandatory. Round up in restaurants or leave about 10-12.5% where service is not included. Taxis and tours get small rounding-up tips.
• Most restaurants add a discretionary service charge, usually shown on the bill and removable on request. Ask if the menu omits prices; decline any unexplained cover or bread charges.
