Quick facts: Home to over 20,000 animals across 700 species, this zoo is the oldest scientific zoo in the world. Its iconic Reptile House was famously featured in Harry Potter films, and the penguin pool was designed by the same architect who created the Tardis for Doctor Who.
Highlights: The zoo's Land of the Lions exhibit lets you walk through a recreated Indian temple complex where Asiatic lions roam just meters away behind glass, letting you hear their roars vibrate through your chest. Unlike most zoo enclosures, this one was built around the historic Grade II listed giraffe house, blending modern conservation with Victorian architecture.
