Getting around

Public buses and Grab motorbikes will carry you across Vietnam. Between Hanoi and Ninh Binh, and Hanoi and Ha Long Bay, comfortable buses run 2 to 3.5 hours. For Ha Long to Hue, take a 10-hour overnight bus back to Hanoi, then fly to Hue. Hue to Hoi An is a 3-hour bus over Hai Van Pass, and Hoi An to Ho Chi Minh City is a short flight from Da Nang. In the south, buses connect Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho (3.5 hours) and onward to Rach Gia, where a ferry reaches Phu Quoc. Within cities, walking is best in Hanoi's Old Quarter, Hoi An's Ancient Town, and District 1. Grab taxis cost about $0.4 per kilometer; apps include Grab, Be, Vinasun, and G7. Rent a motorbike to explore Phu Quoc's coasts.
