Vrhunci: Kupola meri 31 metrov v premeru, zasnovala pa sta jo leta 537 arhitekta Isidor iz Mileta in Antemij iz Trala; nad glavo se razteza 55,6 metra visok obok, prekrit s pozlačenimi mozaiki, ki v topli svetlobi žarijo kot razpršene zvezde. V jugovzhodnem hodniku je tako imenovani Jokajoči steber z majhno luknjico, v katero obiskovalci zataknejo palec in pogosto čutijo rahlo slan, topel občutek, medtem ko so številni bizantinski mozaiki dolgo časa ležali pod ometom in so bili šele po več stoletjih spet odkrite.
