Located in Gisozi on KN 14 Avenue, this is a somber and essential introduction to Rwanda's history. Allow up to two hours for the three permanent exhibitions and the memorial gardens. Arrive early to avoid tour groups and give yourself quiet time to process.

On KN 5 Road in Nyamirambo, this natural history museum sits in the former residence of German explorer Richard Kandt. It covers early Rwandan history and colonial era exhibits. Look for the small brick house he built, one of Kigali's oldest structures.

Ask your lodge or any tour stall along the Kibuye waterfront to arrange a kayak or a shared motorboat to the nearby islands. Confirm the price and duration upfront. Calm mornings give the best water conditions.

Head to the small public beach strip near the town center or pay a small entry fee at a waterfront hotel for their loungers. Late afternoon sun is gentle here. Bring sandals and a towel.

Head to the northwestern peninsula near Gisenyi, with lakeside paths linking of fishing villages. Ask locals for a boat ride... actually no specifics yet.

Arrive at the main Uwinka reception by 6:45 to join the morning guided canopy walk. Bring rain gear, sturdy shoes, and cash for the park fee (foreign visitors pay higher rates). The suspension bridge trail takes roughly 3 hours and you must walk with a ranger.
