Rychlá fakta: Téměř 40 000 vytesaných kamenných bloků bylo rozřezáno, očíslováno a znovu postaveno o 12 metrů výše na bezpečnějším ostrově během záchranné mise UNESCO v 70. letech. Kněží zde uctívali bohyni magie až do 6. století, dlouho poté, co Řím zakázal jiné pohanské kulty, a později křesťanští mniši starověké řezby přemalovali.
