Rychlá fakta: Pevnost se tyčí 20 metrů vysoko s hradbami z udusané hlíny a rozkládá se na ploše zhruba 4 hektarů v centru Buchary. Poté, co ruské jednotky v roce 1920 pevnost bombardovaly, se dochovalo pouze asi 20 procent původních staveb.
Zajímavosti: Náměstí Registan přímo před pevností kdysi hostilo každý pátek veřejné popravy, kdy byli odsouzení svrženi z vyvýšené brány. Málo známý fakt: poslední emír uprchl tajným podzemním tunelem, když Rudá armáda v roce 1920 prolomila hradby, a zanechal za sebou svůj harém a pokladnici.

- Climb to the top of the gate ramp for the best view of the Registan square and the city skyline.
- Wear sturdy closed-toe shoes because the packed earth paths and uneven staircases inside the fortress are dusty and slippery.
- Visit the small throne room on the right after entering the main gate, it has the most intact original ceiling paintings from the 19th century.
