Insidertipps
- Start at Emmersdorf before 9 AM to catch the morning mist lifting off the Danube and have the trail nearly to yourself.
- Wear sturdy hiking shoes, the stone terraces get slippery after rain and some sections involve 200 stone steps carved into hillsides.
- Stop at a Heuriger (wine tavern) around 4 PM when local winemakers open their doors for fresh young wine and cold platters.
- Skip the busy Melk Abbey main hours and visit the trail section between Weissenkirchen and Dürnstein instead for the most dramatic cliffside views.
