Schnelle Fakten: Neben dem Platz ragt eine rötlich-gelbe Holzkathedrale empor, eine der 16 von der UNESCO geschützten Holzkirchen der Region. Vom Rand des Platzes aus sind in der Bucht mehr als 300 auf Pfählen errichtete Häuser zu sehen, die man Palafitos nennt.
Highlights: Die Wände der Kathedrale bestehen aus Tausenden von Holzspänen, und die feuchte Luft zwingt dazu, sie neu zu streichen, weshalb die Kirche ihre Farbe häufiger wechselt als viele andere. Von der Treppe am Rande des Platzes aus eröffnet sich das gesamte Palafito-Viertel, das bei Ebbe innerhalb weniger Stunden zu einem völlig anderen Anblick wird.
