Schnelle Fakten: Von der Kuppelspitze eröffnet sich ein Panorama, das bei klarem Wetter Fotografen und Sonnenanbeter stundenlang fesselt. Im Inneren dominiert ein riesiges goldglänzendes Mosaik, eines der größten Europas, dessen stille Wucht Besucher regelmäßig sprachlos zurücklässt.
Highlights: Im Inneren prangt ein Mosaik von 475 m², "Le Christ en Gloire" genannt, dessen goldene Flächen und winzige blaue und rote Tesserae im Kerzenlicht fast wie eine moderne Sternkarte funkeln. Seit 1885 brennt ununterbrochen eine ständige Anbetung, also eine 24-Stunden-Wache aus Kerzen, Chorgesang und leisen Gebeten, wodurch selbst an lauten Sommerabenden oben auf dem Hügel eine seltsam intime, fast flüsternde Atmosphäre entsteht.

- Arrive at opening to beat most crowds for the dome, or 30–45 minutes before sunset for golden light but expect queues.
- Use the square in front of the basilica and the north terrace for classic Paris panoramas and framed photos; avoid shooting into midday sun.
- Skip the crypt if short on time, the nave and the vast cupola mosaic offer more visual impact for most visitors.
