Schnelle Fakten: Zwei rund 80 Meter hohe Türme verankern eine Kirche, deren Halle die Handwerker fast 200 Jahre brauchten, um sie fertigzustellen. Im Inneren hängen rivalisierende Meisterwerke aus derselben Zeit: Veit Stoß' vergoldeter Englischer Gruß von 1517 und Adam Krafts fein geschnitzter, 20 Meter hoher steinerner Sakramentsturm.
Highlights: Untersucht man den Sockel von Adam Krafts steinernem Sakramentsturm, findet man das Selbstporträt des Bildhauers, der unter der Last kauert, die Lippen geöffnet und den Meißel in der Hand, eine Pose, die er seit 1496 hält. Die eigentliche Verkündigungsschnitzerei von Veit Stoß aus dem Jahr 1517 hängt niedrig in der frei zugänglichen Halle, sodass Besucher um ihre vergoldeten Figuren kreisen können, statt in den fernen Chor zu blinzeln.
