Schnelle Fakten: Dem Herrn Shiva geweiht, liegt dieser Tempel an den Ufern der Kavvayi Backwaters im Norden Keralas. Die Hauptgottheit ist ein selbstmanifestiertes (Swayambhu) Shiva Lingam, von dem die Einheimischen glauben, dass es vor Jahrhunderten von einem Bauern beim Pflügen seines Feldes entdeckt wurde.
Highlights: Anders als die meisten Tempel Keralas mit ihren hohen Gopurams ist das Allerheiligste hier eine kleine, niedrige Struktur, die man nur gebückt betreten kann, was eine intime Begegnung mit der Gottheit schafft. Während des jährlichen Kalasham Festes werden die Tempelteiche mit über 10.000 Öllampen auf einmal erleuchtet, deren Spiegelungen auf dem schwarzen Wasser tanzen, während Priester uralte vedische Hymnen singen.
