Schnelle Fakten: Die Struktur aus Koralle und Kalkmörtel wurde 1593 von den Portugiesen errichtet, bevor sie neunmal von den Omanern und Briten erstürmt wurde. Die UNESCO hat sie 2011 zum Weltkulturerbe erklärt, und der menschenförmige Verlauf ihrer Mauern birgt noch immer Kanonen aus dem 18. Jahrhundert.
Highlights: Ein unterirdischer, in den Korallenfels gehauener Tunnel verband einst das Fort mit dem Strand, ein diskreter Durchgang, um die Garnison zu versorgen oder zu evakuieren. Nahe der Westmauer sind noch immer Einschlagspuren von Kanonenkugeln aus der osmanischen Belagerung von 1696 zu erkennen.
