Schnelle Fakten: Über 1000 Quadratmeter Fresken aus dem 14. Jahrhundert bedecken das Innere, und die Gemälde gelten als ein Höhepunkt der serbischen mittelalterlichen Kunst. Das Gebäude hat seine Identität viele Male gewechselt: Kirche, über mehrere Jahrhunderte Moschee, und seit dem 20. Jahrhundert wieder Kirche.
Highlights: Unter den Fresken aus dem 14. Jahrhundert liegen ältere Farbschichten von zwei früheren Kirchen auf demselben Grundstück, und Archäologen legten sie Schicht für Schicht frei. Die Christusfigur in der Kuppel hat dunkle, intensive Augen, die dir zu folgen scheinen, wo immer du stehst, umgeben von blauen und roten Farben, die noch immer glühen.
