Schnelle Fakten: Auf einem felsigen Vorsprung mit Blick auf den Golf von Oman gelegen, wurde diese Festung ursprünglich in den 1580er Jahren von den Portugiesen zum Schutz des Hafens von Maskat erbaut. In ihren Zwillingswachtürmen und an ihrer dramatischen Klippenlage befanden sich einst Kanonen, die Warnschüsse über die gesamte Bucht abfeuern konnten.
Highlights: Anders als die meisten Festungen, die sich wie verstaubte Museen anfühlen, hat diese noch eine funktionierende Zugbrücke und originale portugiesische Kanonen, die auf das Meer gerichtet sind. Gehen Sie bei Sonnenuntergang die schmalen Treppen hinauf zum Dach und beobachten Sie, wie unten im Hafen die Lichter der Stadt aufblitzen.
