Schnelle Fakten: Von den 8 Kilometern Gängen der Demänovskáer Freiheitshöhle sind 2,1 Kilometer begehbar, und der Eingang öffnet sich aus einem 60 Meter tiefen Abgrund. Sie wurde 1921 entdeckt und ist seitdem eine der meistbesuchten Tropfsteinhöhlen in der Slowakei, die jährlich von mehr als 200.000 Touristen aufgesucht wird.
Highlights: Einer der beeindruckendsten Säle der Höhle ist die 45 Meter hohe Kathedrale, wo die schlanken Tropfsteinsäulen, die von der Decke herabhängen, im Licht der Scheinwerfer so glänzen, als wären sie aus Edelsteinen gemeißelt. Die Spiegelung der kristallklaren Seen und die konstante Temperatur von 16 °C schaffen ein besonderes Mikroklima, wie man es sonst nirgends finden kann.
Insidertipps
- Put on a thick sweater even in summer, as the cave is a constant 6-7 degrees throughout.
- Photography is permitted even without a tripod, but flash does not bring out many formations nicely, so try to take advantage of the natural colored lighting.
- The last daily tour is usually less crowded than the morning time slots.
- The parking lot in front of the cave is free, but in the tourist season it is worth arriving early for the spaces.
