Schnelle Fakten: Diese enge Schlucht im Inneren Fuerteventuras wurde über Jahrtausende von Sturzfluten geformt und erreicht stellenweise Tiefen von über 100 Metern. Die Canyonwände geben vulkanische Schichten in eindrucksvollen Rot-, Ocker- und Schwarztönen frei und schaffen natürliche Querschnitte der feurigen Erdgeschichte der Insel.
Highlights: Die meisten Besucher bleiben an der Küste und sehen diese 800 Meter lange Slot Canyon nie, in der die Wände so eng zusammenrücken, dass man beide Seiten gleichzeitig berühren kann. Nach Winterregen erscheint ein flacher Bach, und die Schlucht verwandelt sich in eine üppige Mikro-Oase mit Farnen und wilden Palmen, die an den feuchten Klippen haften.
Insidertipps
- Wear sturdy water shoes or hiking sandals, as you will be walking on uneven rock and possibly through shallow water.
- Park at the dirt lot near the main road and follow the dry riverbed upstream, there are no official signs marking the entrance.
- Visit after a rainy spell to see the canyon at its most dramatic with flowing water and revived plant life.
- Arrive early in the morning to have the entire canyon to yourself, as tour groups tend to show up around mid-morning.
