Schnelle Fakten: Auf den Festungsmauern des historischen Galle Fort thront dieser weiß getünchte Leuchtturm, der seit 1939 Schiffe leitet. Sein 26 Meter hoher Turm steht am südlichen Ende der Festung, wo der Indische Ozean gegen die alten Steinmauern darunter brandet.
Highlights: Anders als die meisten Leuchttürme, die allein stehen, erhebt sich dieser direkt von der Spitze der original niederländischen Bastionsmauern aus dem 16. Jahrhundert. Bei Sonnenuntergang erstrahlt das gesamte Bauwerk golden vor dem tiefblauen Ozean, während lokale Fischer direkt darunter von den Felsen aus ihre Leinen auswerfen.
