Schnelle Fakten: Unter hölzernen Stegen hallen Tropfen, während 336 korinthische Säulen das gedämpfte Licht in geheimnisvolle Muster brechen. Besucher spüren kühle, feuchte Luft und sehen zwei umgedrehte Medusenköpfe, die als rätselhafte Sockel zurechtgelegt wurden und von antiker Wiederverwendung zeugen.
Highlights: Unter dem halbdunklen Gewölbe stehen 336 Marmorsäulen, jede etwa 9 Meter hoch, in einem rasterartigen Feld von 12 mal 28 Säulen, das nach feuchtem Stein und altem Wasser riecht und in dem gedämpfte Tropfgeräusche die Luft füllen. In der nordwestlichen Ecke liegen zwei antike Medusa-Köpfe als Säulenbasis, einer kopfüber, der andere seitlich, laut Legende absichtlich so gedreht um ihre Macht zu bannen, während sich Karpfen und kleine Fische ruhig im spiegelnden Wasser bewegen.
