Schnelle Fakten: Über 40 Mausoleen drängen sich entlang einer schmalen Gasse, jedes einzelne bedeckt mit blauen und türkisfarbenen glasierten Ziegelsteinen. Der Grabkomplex entstand über 300 Jahre hinweg, und jeder Herrscher versuchte, seinen Vorgänger mit einer prunkvollen Grabkammer zu übertreffen.
Highlights: Am oberen Ende der Treppe befindet sich das Grab von Kusam ibn Abbas, einem Cousin des Propheten Muhammad, der der Legende nach nicht starb, sondern in der Unterwelt weiterlebt. Deshalb wird der Ort "Das Grab des lebenden Königs" genannt, und man kann noch immer Pilger sehen, die kleine Zettel mit Gebeten an seinem Mausoleum hinterlassen.

- Bring a small flashlight to see the details in the darker burial chambers at the far end.
- Photograph from the bottom of the stairs upward for the best picture of the entire alley with all the domes.
- Dress covered over shoulders and knees, this is an active pilgrimage site and respect is expected.
- Skip the middle of the day between 12-2 PM when the sun is directly overhead and creates flat shadows.
