About

Quick facts: A Catholic cathedral in Tahiti built in the 19th century during the reign of French King Louis Philippe I. Its white coral walls come from local reefs and give the building an unmistakable southern character.

Highlights: Inside you will find a rare wood carving of the Virgin Mary made from tamarisk wood with distinct Polynesian facial features, a unique blend of Catholic iconography with local culture. The coral stones used in construction weigh up to 500 kilograms each and were transported by ship from neighboring islands.
