Quick facts: A Baroque monastery with over 1,200 years of history hides one of the largest monastic libraries in Bavaria with nearly 10,000 volumes. It stands on the spot where the hermit Saint Magnus once lived, and its ceiling frescoes cover an incredible 450 square meters.

Highlights: In the library hall, you will find a hidden door disguised among the bookshelves, which leads to a secret passage. From there, the monks once observed church services without being seen by anyone.

• Do not forget to bring a sweater. Even in summer, the stone corridors of the monastery are pleasantly cool to refreshingly chilly.
• The best photos of the library are taken from the corner by the door, where you can capture the entire gold-adorned decor.
• Skip the midday hours from 12:00 to 14:00, as that is when the largest groups of tourists arrive.
• After the tour, sit down in the monastery courtyard on a bench under the linden tree. It is an ideal place for a short rest.
