- Fair taxi price (official, daytime): ¥5,000 - ¥8,000 (€28 - €45). For Yokohama, official metered city taxis from Haneda run about 5000 to 8000 yen daytime. Use the official ranked taxi stand, never follow drivers who approach you inside the terminal. Meter should be on; no fixed tourist price.
- Best alternative: Keikyu Airport Line express train for Haneda; for Narita the airport limousine bus (¥500 (€2.84))
- Paper tickets are validated at the station gate turnstile by inserting them; IC cards (Suica, Pasmo) are tapped in and out at the gates. There is no separate on-board validation on trains or most buses. Tap out on buses via the rear/entry reader. Fine without a valid ticket: ¥20,000 (€113.63).
- No tipping custom. Service is included in the bill in Japan.
- There is no cover or service charge and no bread charge. The bill is what you pay. Beware menus without prices in tourist-heavy areas; ask before ordering if no price is shown.
- Always choose to be charged in JPY and decline dynamic currency conversion. Prefer ATMs attached to major banks or the 7-Eleven/Post office networks which accept foreign cards. Independent machines in convenience areas may add higher fees; watch the prompt for a conversion offer and reject it.

How we calculate
Stay is a double room shared by two (one room per two travelers). Food assumes two cheap meals, a modest dinner and a coffee on a budget, a cheap lunch, a restaurant dinner, coffee and a drink mid-range and restaurant meals, coffees and drinks in comfort.
