Arrive on the regular train from Vilnius, about 30 minutes and roughly hourly departures. From the station walk downhill along the main road into town for around 15 minutes, with the island castle coming into view across the water as you approach.

Find a Karaim bakery along the main pedestrian street and order freshly baked kibinai, the crescent shaped pastries filled with meat, mushroom, or cheese. Grab a few to share with hot tea, a filling snack for around 4 for a couple of pieces.
Start at the town beach and follow the paved lakeshore path toward the island castle, about 2 kilometers round trip with wide views across Galvė. In autumn the amber trees frame the brick castle well, and the short rise near the waterfront gives the classic photo angle.
