Irkutsk surprised me, not gonna lie. The wooden houses alongside Soviet blocks give it this weird, unique charm. Three days was enough for the city but add more for Lake Baikal.

Download the Yandex.Go app before you arrive. Taxis are dirt cheap but you need the app to get them, waving down cabs on the street almost never works out here.

Skip restaurants on Karl Marx Street, they overcharge tourists hard. Walk over to the area near the central market instead, same food at half the price and way better atmosphere.

I went in November and regretted it. Grey skies, icy sidewalks, bone cold. I can see why summer is peak season. The city felt pretty dead too.

Honest take? Irkutsk is fine but not magical. A day to see the main sights and you are done. Lake Baikal is the real star, do not skip that for extra city time.
