About

Quick facts: The combined green space spans roughly 22 hectares right in the middle of the city, giving residents a lung of old-growth forest without leaving town. More than a dozen rare tree species over a century old survive here, including giant sequoias and ginkgo trees.

Highlights: A century-old giant sequoia towers over the grass near the upper entrance, its bark smelling of cedar and vanilla after rain. Locals still call the adjacent avenue 'Bridle Path Hill', a leftover from the days when gentry rode horses there in the 1800s.

Insider tips

  • Enter from the upper Horský park side and walk downhill through Medická záhrada for the gentler route.
  • Climb the small hill near the old gazebo for a wide view over the rooftops toward the castle.
  • Pack a picnic blanket in warm months, the grassy slopes fill up fast on sunny afternoons.
  • Skip the paved main path and follow the narrow dirt trails through the wooded section for more shade and solitude.
