Friendly locals, gorgeous sunsets and great food. Spent six days and still wanted more, go for at least a week.
Rent a scooter only if comfortable, lock paperwork in the glove box, check brakes and lights, and fill up before nightfall.
Too many package-tour groups for my taste, beaches crowded midday and restaurants near piers jack up prices.
Food is incredible, try the seafood. Beware Chaweng if you want quiet, that strip gets loud and expensive at night.
Island feels relaxed but also touristy, some beaches are crowded, tuk-tuks haggle hard but sunsets are worth it.
