Local tip: avoid paying street rates, use the public lot off Valley Road after 5pm for cheaper evening parking. Walk everywhere from there.

Crowds in July were brutal and parking was a nightmare. Still loved the harbor views and tiny cafés, would go again in late spring.

Overhyped for me, lots of tourist shops and pushy souvenir sellers. Food was hit or miss, not worth more than a day if you're on a budget.

For food, duck two blocks off Thames Street toward lower Marlborough, tons of affordable seafood joints with real portions, not tourist prices.

Sunset along the Cliff Walk is something else, really worth the walk. Bring windproof clothes, and try a clam shack for casual dinner.
