Highlights: The museum's third floor features a rotating "art of the month" display where visitors can watch conservators actively restoring ancient lacquer paintings and silk scrolls in an open studio. You can stand inches away from the restorer's table and ask questions about their meticulous work, a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse into art preservation.

- Start on the third floor and work your way down, since the upper galleries are typically quietest in the morning hours.
